Grief is an emotion that many of us will experience at some point in our lives. It is often seen as a linear process; we experience the initial shock, followed by denial, bargaining, anger, depression and eventually, acceptance. But the reality is that grief is not a linear process. It is a rollercoaster of emotions that can be difficult to navigate. For those who have experienced grief, it can be difficult to understand why it doesn’t feel like a straight line. Grief can be unpredictable and can take us in many different directions.


One day you may feel like you are in a good place, but the next day you may find yourself back in the depths of despair, defeat and extreme sadness. This is normal and okay. Despite the nature of grief, there are still lessons to be learned. One of the most important lessons is that grief is not something to be rushed. It takes time and patience to process and heal. It is important to be kind to yourself and allow yourself the space to feel all of the emotions that come with grief. Grief can also teach us the importance of self-care. In the midst of grief, it is easy to forget to take care of ourselves.
